Click on the photos that will transport you to the relevant places to enhance your adventure of experimenting with and imaginary attitude AND not be bothered by a proper summer but exalt in it.
Hello old birds what a glorious summer, true it’s a bit sapping but just get out there and get some sun on your body! Of course the following has photos of me coping with extreme heat in more exotic places but I also give tips to those stuck at home with no money for hols yet.
I’m still in Soho so in the middle of ALL the muck and horribly pushy grumpy people who clearly don’t know how to calm down and just enjoy it. It’s a good reminder of how we have become so fearful and cossetted by modern day attitudes and ridiculous hysteria.

True it’s hot at night but I’m managing fine without even a fan just my tried and tested ways of cooling stuff a bit. I managed in Mexico without air conditioning so I’m damned sure I can here.
Firstly close curtains and windows of any side which is being exposed to the direct sun, it seems counter-intuitive but it’s really not. You only want to have shady sides open. If a room has already heated up close that door if you can to allow any breeze to syphon through the rest of the house.
Always Take cold showers and thoroughly wet your hair throughout the day and especially just before you go to bed. Drip dry and and calm your body temperature down. If you’re precious about your mattress and pillows then make the protective layer you want, Ideally you’ll slinging yourself down wet a few times a day so you don’t want to feel you’re staining anything
Pure linen and cotton sheets are a must, none of those half cocked mixed fibres with plastic and chemicals in!
Fill a couple of plastic bottles with water and bung in the freezer, this is a brilliant way to cool yourself at night. Just pop in a pillow case and use to cool your hot bits at night! Also a hot water bottle can be used in the same way and even shaped with a bowl to make a brain cooling cap. I’m currently work on an ice helmet in a plastic bag which is hysterical as it’s made me realise how big my bonce is!This you can use in conjunction with a cold damp towel to make it fit and avoid plastic leaching on your head.
Now as you can see even I succumb to a bit of rough in the lido in Hyde park but I confess a cold bath with your favourite salts or indeed just sea salt, can be left there all day for you to jump into for a proper cooling of core temperature and after you feel so zingy and alive that you can continue your day. Drink and ice cold glass of lager or wine while you imagine yourself in the sea.
Chill your glasses and make cold soups and fresh lemonade to dip into during the day. Have those things ready so you can put in a flask if you decide to go off somewhere. Gazpacho, vichyssoise, lettuce and cucumber soups are lovely . Chop up fruit salad to be able to grab at during the day. The world is your oyster. Make ice lollies with fresh fruit juice and you’ll never overheat. Iced coffee or chocolate milk (with a splash of white rum maybe) All set up in your fridge and freezer.
Get an early trip to escape any city and go to the countryside to forest bathe and earth yourself. Take a picnic and a book and plenty of water . Love yourself and love the heat. Just slow down and go iguana or indeed lizard. Absorb the sun it’s healing you stop fighting that heat go with the flow. A day out is soul repairing and peace in the woods and meadows can be treated like a spiritual as it indeed is. Have your cold bath on your return and that cocktail you prepped earlier you have just returned from your small holiday and now you are back at the hotel having a dip and a cocktail with some lovely music on. You can then dance although this is not obligatory and might necessitate another bath and so on.
Olives and cheese and cold meats for a small snack? No problem you have them ready in the fridge along with what dinner you made; that is if you can be arsed because you’ve probably started in the chilled wine by now. Go for it old birds you only live the once.
To go alongside your fully prepped fridge and freezer, your country walks and cold baths what about a sortie to a museum or gallery? They are usually air conditioned too and you can absorb some culcher innit. Go to less busy places do a bit of research and find off the beaten track venues. This also can add to your other worldly sense of being on holiday and cool you down too. You’re allowed a beer after too, at a Wetherspoons preferably for cheapness!
Go to free concerts and look out for any free events local to you, believe me there’s a lot going on out there without even spending a penny!
Get a mountain of books out that you kept meaning to read for now is the time for you to do it without feeling guilty like you should be doing some, for this indeed is your holiday so enjoy.
For soon my old birds we will be away again as the universe will aid our escape, but more on that later. With huge love and positive energy xxxx
