If you approach a younger person about the massacre in Tiananmen Square in 1989, they will look at you dumbly. The Communist Party has whitewashed it from the history books as if it never happened. The heroics and ideals of the most educated students, intellectuals and labour activists who took to the streets and finally the square, in a Pacifist form, to call for democracy, free speech and free press in China, no longer exist there.
They are back to square one with corruption and disinformation.
If you’re honest anywhere you go around Beijing a very unpleasant Big Brother is checking your actions. It’s a horribly intimidating place and my morbid visit to the infamous square left me sick and shaking. People were literally walking over the ground where their countrymen fell in a terrible massacre non the wiser as they have no knowledge of this infamous historical event.

The fake overly bright attitude to all with their brittle smiles that look like they will shatter any minute tells the tale of how they try to deal with the tourists, the huge number of Military goosestepping around with grim inscrutable faces tells another more truthful story. Beware you will be approached by state-certified tour guides to keep a solo traveller like me on the straight and narrow as they will already be suspicious of you.

To enter the square you need to pass through security and anywhere close you can’t cross the road you must use designated underpasses. Once you’re in you want out if you know anything about them staging burning the already dead bodies of Falun Gong practitioners. This is not Urban Myth this is a fact, these peaceful people lead very pure lives so have extremely healthy and valuable organs. THE ORGAN HARVESTING IS DONE WHILE THEY ARE STILL LIVING.
